At only 24 years of age, pro-MMA fighter Anthony “The Genius” Romero is taking care of business. On November 1, 2021, Romero officially becomes a businessman with his new gym Genius Fitness & MMA, opening in the city of Port Colborne in Ontario, Canada. At the moment, Romero is busy painting and renovating his 1200 square foot storefront location.
“The Genius” began training in Taekwondo at age five and continued on to Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing and MMA. At the age of 18, he started his amateur career and is now a professional fighter with a record of 9-1.
In 2020 he competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, earning the unanimous decision win against Mike Breeden (10-4). Many people were surprised when Romero did not walk away with a UFC contract after his dominant and technical performance. White’s denial has not shattered the Niagara top Team/Aegis MMA athlete, though. He still believes he is on the road to reaching his dream of competing in the UFC.
‘My two dreams are aligning,” said Romero, “I’ve always wanted to own my own gym so that I can spread my love of martial arts and fitness on to others. At the same time, I am still training hard and preparing myself to be a true threat in the UFC’s lightweight division. I just don’t want to make it to the UFC, I want to be successful and fight my way up to the top of the division. In order to receive great things, you need to give back. I am giving back by sharing my years of knowledge and practice in this sport on to others”.
All of us at TalesFromSport.com wish Anthony the best of luck with his business endeavours alongside his exploits inside the cage.
